The biggest transformation to enterprise software in the past 15 years has been the move from on-prem enterprise software to SaaS. Most of the customer value from that move has accrued not to end-users of this software but to enterprise IT departments managing and maintaining them. IT teams that previously operated the jenga stack of databases, servers, storage with constantly varying software and hardware upgrades moved on to creative projects that refocused IT strategy to business value. A second transformation, driven by AI, is underway. This time value will accrue to the end-users of enterprise software — — making the enterprise software experience as delightfully dopamine laden as a scroll through Facebook or Twitter.
